On a bright and exciting day, Cimquest opened its doors to guests for a unique Derby event, blending the thrill of racing with the marvels of modern technology. Inspired by the classic “Pinewood Derby,” this event was designed to showcase the innovative solutions Cimquest offers and how these technologies come together to create our very own Derby car.

The day began with a guided tour of our facility, where guests were introduced to the various technologies that played a crucial role in building our Derby car. We highlighted the capabilities of our HP, Formlabs, and UltiMaker machines, demonstrating how each contributes to our cutting-edge manufacturing processes. A special highlight of the tour was the display of two golf ball putters, 3D printed on our Xact Metal Machine and Desktop Metal Shop System. These putters not only showcased the precision and versatility of our 3D printing technology but also served as a nod to a previous successful event.

Following the tour, guests enjoyed a delicious lunch, providing an opportunity to mingle, share insights, and build anticipation for the afternoon’s main event – the Derby races. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as participants prepared their cars for the competition.

The races were the highlight of the day, featuring a mix of creativity and competitive spirit. Tony Randazzo from Kearfott emerged victorious, taking first place with his expertly crafted Derby car. In a surprising twist, Travis Brown, also from Kearfott, secured second place with a car he borrowed from Tony, showcasing the collaborative spirit of the event. Sarah Oliver from Flexicon Corporation claimed third place with her uniquely themed banana car, adding a touch of fun and creativity to the competition.

Throughout the event, the spirit of innovation and camaraderie was palpable. Guests not only witnessed the capabilities of Cimquest’s 3D printing solutions but also experienced the joy of friendly competition and community. The Derby event was a testament to the power of technology in bringing people together and inspiring creativity. After the event had ended Cimquest’s Joel Pollet scanned Tony’s car so he’d have a 3D model of it, in case a 3D printed car that is similar wanted to be printed in the future.

We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future, where we can continue to showcase our technological advancements and foster a sense of community among our partners and clients.
