Welcome to the second in our “Mastercam Monday” series, which will cover some Tips and Tricks using the newly-released Mastercam 2017. Today we will cover the new Mastercam 2017 user interface.
Mastercam 2017 is focused on delivering more speed and efficiency to every aspect of your machining tasks. It features a new tabbed ribbon interface, similar to the Microsoft office products which helps capitalize on your navigation experience from other software, making it easier to find the functions that you need quickly.
The tabs combine icons and text for fast recognition and the ribbon tabs group similar functions together, displaying them in order from the simplest to more complex.
Each tab is for a specific type of activity, such as wireframe geometry work, and you will see that creation and editing functions are grouped on the same tab so you have all the tools you need in one place when you need them. For example, the Machine tab includes all the machine types, and selecting a machine will then display a context tab that lists available toolpath and related functions.
You can also browse through toolpath ‘galleries’ with icons showing sample motion to help you decide what path to use.
You can also click File to access the Backstage view, where you will find tools for file management, customizing your environment, help, tutorials, and social media connections.
The Quick Access Toolbar contains a set of commands independent of the ribbon tabs. You can move this toolbar anywhere and add or remove any buttons you wish.
The right click menu in the graphics area has been enhanced with a new mini toolbar for instant access to all your entity attributes and all of the selection functions have been grouped within the graphics area for easy access.
Finally, an array of new documentation installs automatically with the software including a What’s New document, Transition Guide, and helpful Quick Reference Card.
As you can see, you can benefit from all the new features that Mastercam 2017 has to offer, continuing to make your programming experience more efficient and enjoyable.
