Liquid Silicone Rubber Molds with PolyJet

By |2016-12-15T14:30:59-05:00April 25th, 2016|Categories: 3D Printing / Additive Mfg, Stratasys|

Liquid Silicone Rubber is a broadly used non-reactive compound. Its high resistance to extreme environments and temperatures make it a perfect seal material for aerospace, defense, and automotive components, but it is also used in sporting goods, medical devices, and consumer products. Unlike traditional thermoplastics which are melted before injection molding, LSR starts as a liquid which then cures into a solid after injected into a heated mold. It has a lower viscosity, which allows [...]

Mastercam Color Masking and Chaining

By |2016-12-15T14:30:59-05:00April 20th, 2016|Categories: Mastercam, Tech Tips|

There is a useful, but sometimes over-looked option in Mastercam’s wireframe geometry chaining. Chain masking can help focus selection based on the geometry attributes. In addition, the option to mask chaining by color employs a ‘smart selection’ tool that takes advantage of selection intelligence built into the software. The file shown below contains both solid model geometry and wireframe curve geometry on all of the solid’s edges. For this example we will focus on cutting [...]

3D Printing and Thermoforming Applications

By |2016-12-15T14:31:00-05:00April 15th, 2016|Categories: 3D Printing / Additive Mfg|

Thermoforming is a process in which sheets of extruded plastic are formed into custom shapes. The process begins by heating a sheet to an elastic or pliable state. After the plastic softens, a mold is placed under the sheet, and the sheet is drawn onto the mold by either a vacuum or air pressure. Upon cooling, the plastic takes the shape of the mold, forming a finished solid part. Thermoforming is a widely adopted process [...]

Mastercam Space Bar Recall

By |2016-12-15T14:31:00-05:00April 13th, 2016|Categories: Mastercam, Tech Tips|

You can now use the space bar to instantly recall the last command used if you returned Mastercam to an idle state between commands. To do this just active a simple command, for instance: Create / Curve / Curve on One Edge. Place curves on a few edges, then click OK. Now, if you hit the space bar Mastercam will return to the single edge curve command immediately.   Note that if you change color [...]
